The Client
Trivium Engineering is a multidisciplinary engineering firm specializing in civil, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering solutions. Formerly known as Peterson Guadagnolo Consulting Engineers PC, the firm had built a strong reputation through decades of technical expertise, trusted client relationships, and successful project delivery. As the company continued to evolve, the partners recognized the need for a modern brand identity that reflected not only where the firm had been, but where it was headed.
Their vision was to create a name and brand that felt contemporary, memorable, and differentiated within the engineering industry while still honoring the collaborative foundation that had driven the firm’s success.
The Scope
Split14 was engaged to lead a complete rebrand of the organization. This included strategic naming research, brand positioning, logo design, visual identity development, color palette selection, website design and development, messaging refinement, and the launch of a new digital presence that reflected the firm’s expertise and future direction.
The project required balancing decades of established credibility with a fresh identity that would position the firm for long-term growth.
The Challenges
One of the biggest challenges was creating a new identity that existing clients would embrace while also helping the firm stand out in a highly competitive engineering market. Many engineering companies rely on similar naming conventions, visual styles, and color palettes, making differentiation difficult.
The partners wanted a name that felt meaningful rather than manufactured. It needed to represent the firm’s values, collaboration, and future vision while remaining professional and timeless. The new brand also needed to break away from industry clichés without sacrificing credibility.
Beyond the name itself, the visual identity needed to communicate technical expertise and precision while creating a more modern and memorable presence than many of their competitors.
The Beginning
The project began with extensive discovery sessions focused on understanding the firm’s history, culture, and long-term goals. What stood out immediately was the collaborative nature of the organization. The three partners had built the company through shared expertise, trust, and a commitment to delivering exceptional engineering solutions.
As we developed mood boards and explored creative directions, it became clear that the rebrand needed to feel sophisticated, intentional, and distinctive. Many engineering firms rely heavily on bright blues, greens, and generic technical imagery. One of our earliest goals was to move away from those industry standards and create something that felt more elevated and memorable.
Several non-negotiables emerged during the discovery process. The new name needed to have meaning behind it, the visual identity needed to feel modern without becoming trendy, and the overall brand needed to communicate professionalism, technical excellence, and collaboration. Most importantly, the partners wanted a brand that reflected their shared leadership and the way they approach projects as a unified team.
The Process
The naming process became one of the most important and extensive phases of the project. We conducted multiple rounds of research and exploration, evaluating numerous naming concepts and strategic directions. Each round brought us closer to a solution that aligned with the firm’s values while differentiating them from competitors.
The name Trivium Engineering ultimately emerged as the strongest choice. The word “Trivium” refers to the convergence of three roads, creating a powerful connection to the firm’s three partners and the collaborative approach that defines their work. The name felt distinctive, professional, and meaningful while offering a strong foundation for the new brand story.
Once the name was established, we shifted our attention to the visual identity. Rather than following the industry trend of bright blues and greens, we intentionally selected a darker palette of blue-violet tones paired with yellow accents. This strategic decision helped create immediate differentiation while maintaining a professional and sophisticated appearance.
Logo development focused on translating the meaning behind the new name into a simple and recognizable symbol. Through multiple rounds of exploration and refinement, we transformed the letter “T” into an abstract representation of three roads converging. The final mark not only reinforces the meaning of Trivium, but also creates a visual system that can stand independently from the wordmark and become an identifiable brand asset.
With the brand identity finalized, we moved into website development. The primary goal was to showcase the firm’s experience, technical capabilities, and project portfolio in a way that felt modern and engaging. Throughout the process, the partners prioritized professionalism, clarity, and credibility. To reinforce the brand story, we incorporated subtle animation featuring the three lines of the logo icon moving together, visually representing the convergence and collaboration that inspired the Trivium name itself.
The Result
The final result is a complete transformation from a traditional engineering firm brand into a modern, distinctive identity that positions the company for continued growth.
The Trivium Engineering brand successfully captures the firm’s collaborative foundation while differentiating it from competitors through strategic naming, thoughtful visual design, and a refined digital presence. The new logo, color palette, and website work together to communicate technical expertise, industry excellence, and forward-thinking innovation.
What began as a rebranding initiative ultimately became an opportunity to redefine how the firm presents itself to clients, partners, and future employees. The result is a brand that honors the company’s legacy while confidently positioning Trivium Engineering for the future.
